Welcome to the 2014-2015 Committee for Montgomery (CfM)!
My name is Dr. Stewart Edelstein and this year, I am privileged to serve as the Chair of the Committee for Montgomery.
First, welcome to our new website! We recently redesigned the CfM site so that our members, partners, and supporters in the community can have easier access to current content, events, and news from CfM. In that spirit, this blog will be updated regularly by the CfM Communications Committee (in formation) and other members of the CfM Board of Directors.
Second, at the CfM Executive Committee retreat this past summer, we decided to continue to focus on economic development and expand our attention to look at regional issues impacting the county. We believe that this focus will enable CfM to best advance and support state policies and legislation to advance the interests and needs of Montgomery County.
Montgomery County is changing – and has been for several decades now. As we all know, Montgomery County has always been recognized across the State as the economic engine of Maryland. As you also know, that’s a double-edged sword. On the one hand, we want to remain that strong economic engine. On the other hand, we are not likely to be able to continue to do that into the future without recognition and support for a changing Montgomery at the State level.
That’s why Committee for Montgomery is so important. There’s no other organization like it in the State. There’s no other organization that represents such a broad spectrum of organizations and interests that has managed to come to agreement on issues of mutual concern and mutual support.
Last, and most importantly, I look forward to working with our board and the other members of our community to keep moving our County forward.
